Can I add a member only to a card, or must they also be a member of the parent board?

I'm new to Trello and am putting it into good use. My question is, can I add a member only to specific cards, or must they also be a member of the parent board?

Hi John! Welcome to the community 🙂 for the moment, the only way to share a card with someone is to add them to the board; it's not currently possible to just add someone to a card, and not the board. However, there are some alternatives depending on your use-case. What's the need to only share some cards?
