Automations exceeded, 41 ran on schedule, but only 11 schedules should have been triggered?

Paul Dickson September 17, 2025

I Upon exceeding my 250 limit, I checked.  I had/have 11 automations scheduled for Sept 15th between 12am and 12:10am.  In that time, I have a log of 41 scheduled automations that ran. During the day, 3 action triggered automations ran.

Seems that something is wrong with the automation code.  Unless, and it's not clear, that I get docked for every sub action of an automation. Then it might make sense.

Hi Paul, welcome to Trello community.

Trello Free as 250 automation runs per month as a quota limit. Every time an automation is triggered, it counts as a run.

Checking our logs I see you had (it seems disabled now) an automation to when a card is added to the board, it marks the card as incomplete. Just this automation ran 89 times since the beginning of this month in addition to the other automations you have/had run.

If you have disabled those, you probably won't reach the limit again. The automation quota is reset in the beginning of each month.

You can have more additional details about the quota limits here: https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/butler-quotas-and-limits/

That's a good point. I'll keep an eye on it next time and consider that when configuring them.

Thank you for looking into it.

BTW, I noticed in the logs many automations start to run, show a few results, but never say completed in that log. Then they run again and say complete later. Sometimes it takes multiple attempts. Do those failed runs count toward our limit?

Hey Paul, you're welcome! I was checking here to confirm the information about your question, and it will count as an automation run as it was triggered. The operations (actions) after the trigger are counted as operation runs.
