Atlassian Team members are employees working across the company in a wide variety of roles.

Hi Frederick,

 

it is not required to add or join a team. If you are using Trello by yourself with a limited number of boards, you can keep the boards in your personal boards.

If you however have multiple boards and collaborate with different users, it may be helpful to create a team. More information is here: http://help.trello.com/article/927-what-are-teams
