Hey Community! 👋

@Emma Wolstencroft  and I recently held a Live Learning session on Rovo Platform Skills, and we had a lot of fun showing a few of our favorites in action.

You know those 80s movie scenes where someone starts with a messy problem, the synth music kicks in, and suddenly everything is organized before the montage ends?

That is kind of what Rovo Platform Skills can feel like 😄 They can help you get through repetitive work with a lot less clicking.

There are now 40+ out-of-the-box Rovo Platform Skills available across Atlassian products.

That is a lot of helpfulness hiding behind one little / (slash)

The Platform Skills library keeps growing, so the easiest way to see what is available to you is to open Rovo Chat and type /. You will see Platform Skills relevant to the apps, context, and permissions you have.

You do not need to learn all 40+ at once. Start with one recurring task that makes you think:

“There has to be a faster way to do this.”

There probably is!

What exactly are Rovo Platform Skills?

Rovo Platform Skills are ready-made, task-specific AI capabilities that give Rovo the know-how to take on recurring jobs in consistent ways.

Think of them as a collection of tiny backstage experts: each one knows the choreography for a particular task, whether that is drafting a status update, explaining a workflow, or turning an idea into work items.

Instead of starting every request from scratch, you can call on a Platform Skill to bring the right context and a little more structure to the party.

Two ways to invoke Rovo Platform Skills

1. Use a slash command

When you know exactly what you want, type / in Rovo Chat and browse the Platform Skills available to you—or type the command directly.

For example:

/write-status-update

This is perfect when you know the job and just want to get moving.

2. Ask in natural language

You can also just describe what you want to accomplish in plain language.

For example:

Draft a status update for my team with highlights, risks, and next steps.

Or:

Help me create work items for planning our team BBQ.

When a relevant Platform Skill is available, Rovo can use it to help turn your request into a more consistent, task-aware outcome.

A rule of thumb:

• Use natural language when you know the outcome you want but are not sure which Platform Skill will help.

• Use / when you know the exact Platform Skill you want to invoke.

No need to memorize the whole menu. You don’t need to be a Turbo Pascal wizard. 😉

Need to turn recent work into a status update without staring at a blank page for 20 minutes?

Try: /write-status-update

It is great for weekly updates, project check-ins, and stakeholder communication. 

/explain-workflow

New to a Jira space? Not sure why a work item cannot move to the next status? Want to understand what happens next without bothering the workflow wizard on your team?

Try: /explain-workflow DYK-42

This Platform Skill helps explain available statuses, transitions, and workflow requirements in plain language.

/get-data-insights

Need a quick answer about blockers, risks, trends, or work that needs attention?

Try: /get-data-insights

Then ask a question such as:
