Creating a new API Key for Statuspage

I'm unsure on what needs to be done for step 7. I created a new key, and selected copy after that step but is there another step in between 6 and 7 below? DO I need to past the copied key anywhere, or delete the old API key that will be expiring? Is it okay to delete the old key before it expires?

How do you replace your current API key?

  1. Select your avatar from the top right of the management screen.
  2. Select API info from the menu that appears.
  3. Select Create key.
  4. Enter a key name.
    • This name appears in the activity log and some integration messages, so it's helpful to give the key a descriptive name to identify which application is using it.
  5. Select the Copy icon to copy the API key to be used.
  6. Select Confirm.
  7. Replace your old key with this new key.

Hello Marvin,

Thank you for contacting Atlassian Community. My name is Siddhartha.

To clarify: when the instructions say
“Replace your old key with this new key.”
This isn’t another action inside the Statuspage API info screen. It means you’ll need to update any place where your old Statuspage API key is currently being used. For Statuspage, that typically includes things like:
  • Any external tools or automation platforms that call the Statuspage API
  • Scripts or services that automatically create/incidents, update components, or post maintenance events
  1. Now that you have already created a new api key, you need to update the old key with the new key.
  2. Next, outside of Statuspage:
    • Go to each system, script, or integration that uses the old Statuspage API key.
    • Paste the new API key there, replacing the old key value.
    • Save the changes and run a quick test (for example, trigger an action that calls the Statuspage API) to confirm it works.

Statuspage doesn’t automatically switch your integrations to the new key – that replacement step has to be done wherever the key is configured.

Do you need to paste the copied key somewhere?
Yes. The new key needs to be pasted into every integration or service that was using the old Statuspage API key.
If you don’t update those, they’ll keep using the old key until it expires (or is deleted), and then API calls will start failing.
Can you delete the old Statuspage API key before it expires?
Yes, you can delete the old key once:
  • All your Statuspage integrations have been updated to use the new key, and
  • You’ve confirmed they’re working correctly with the new key.

If you delete the old key before updating everything, any script or tool still using that old key will fail authentication against the Statuspage API immediately.
If you’re not entirely sure you’ve updated all usages, you can keep the old key active until you’ve confirmed everything has been migrated, or let it expire naturally.

If you have any questions, please do let me know. I'd be more than happy to help!

Thanks
