need to turn off the right sidebar panel

My app used to be that when I clicked on a ticket, it opened. Now it places it in the right sidebar and opens the ticket in a different window.

This is a recent change in Jira Cloud: work items now open in a side panel instead of navigating to the full issue page, and there's no option to disable it. You can read more about how it works here: View content in a side panel.

But you're not alone — many others have shared feedback on this change. You can find the discussion in the official announcement post and a suggestion ticket:
