Rovo Dev: "Extra usage is not available on your Standard trial."

Stephen Musgrave October 14, 2025

Hello,

I am evaluating Rovo Dev and I'm working int pretty hard. I used it quite a it on my firs day of usage and now I see this error:

Your Rovo Dev usage resets in 28d 20h 50m. Extra usage is not available on your Standard trial.

I enabled additional credits per the instructions. I waited for 5 minutes and tried to use Rovo Dev again and I got the same error (with the wait time updated). And then I read the second sentence again and it occurred to me that not even with the additional credit allocation will I be able to use Rovo Dev for another 28 days?

This can't be right. Please advise.

- Stephen

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ADDED 11:20 AM CT:

I checked my inbox and I see a warning that I had used 80% of my credits. In that email it says:

If you want to allow extra usage before the trial ends, you can end the trial early and start the paid plan. If you do this, usage will reset and any usage over the allocated amount will be charged at USD 0.01 per extra Rovo Dev credit and added to the next invoice.

I'm happy to stop the trial earlier so I can continue to use Rovo Dev. How do I do this?

  1. Go to https://admin.atlassian.net
  2. Click on Billing in the left sidebar, you will now be on the "Billing preview" page
  3. Click on the "Manage" button in the "Rovo Dev" row, you will now be on the "Subscription details" page
  4. Click on the "Manage" link within the "Billing profile", you will now be on the "Billing profile details" page.
  5. Click on the "Manage" link within the "Rovo Dev" row, you will now be in yet another "Subscription details" page. At the top of this page you will see a light blue banner with the heading, "Convert to the paid plan before your trial ends."
  6. Click on the "Start paid plan" link in the blue banner at the top of the page, you will now be on the "Confirm your plan" page
  7. Verify your payment method, billing address, sold-to address and cost. Check the privacy policy checkbox and then click the "Confirm" button. You will now be on the "Your subscription has been updated" page.
  8. Click on the "Close" button, you will now be on the "Manage subscriptions" page.
  9. Go to your terminal to resume your session with Rovo Dev or start a new session by entering `acli rovodev run`, you should no longer see the error message, you're back in business!

Hello @Stephen Musgrave

This is what is from Atlassian:

What happens if excessive use is detected?

There is currently no enforcement of Rovo usage limits, but Atlassian reserves the right to enforce limits in the future. However, if we detect that there has been a disproportionate use of Rovo (e.g. if bots or automated systems are detected) that violates our Acceptable Use Policy, then the user will receive an error message stating that excessive use has been detected, and to try again later. We want to ensure optimal performance and fair use across all Atlassian AI users.

Rovo capabilities will continue to function on your site as normal, as long as usage is in accordance with our Acceptable Use Policy.

I didn't receive a message that my usage was excessive.
