Hi
I attempted to add Atlassian's MCP server, https://mcp.atlassian.com/v1/sse as a Custom ChatGPT Connector but it fails "This MCP server doesn't implement our specification: search action not found":
The search semantics are shown here: https://platform.openai.com/docs/mcp#search-semantics
Can Atlassian provide a OpenAI compatible MCP server please?
Thanks
Hey team,
This is Ibby from the Atlassian MCP Product team. We are working on supporting ChatGPT Deep Research Tools in our MCP Server. I can't share timelines but its a work in progress.
Thanks,
Ibby
Hi @Ibraheem Osama ,
Doese we have any update for this case?
Thanks

Hi team - checking in to see if there’s any update on MCP compatibility with ChatGPT.
The connector shows up and can connect successfully, but it’s still grayed out and can’t be enabled in Chat.
Can you confirm whether Atlassian plans to enable the required chat capabilities or if this is still limited to Deep Research / developer environments?
Thanks for any visibility or timeline you can share.

Hey @Blake Hedlin
Atlassian MCP Server connector is now supporting developer and deep research modes in ChatGPT.
Could you please share a screen shot of what error you're getting?
Thanks,
Ibby

You need to enable developer mode first in normal chat.

I just created a new one on the fly and as per the screenshot the connector supports Chat, Deep Research and Agent mode.

@Ibraheem Osama It worked a couple weeks ago but has since stopped. I am able to authenticate my Atlassian account but then it is grayed out when I try to use it. I also don't see Agent Mode or the additional Actions you see in your screenshot.

FWIW we're having the same issue as Blake: the connection is configured and shows "Works with Chat, Deep research" but when trying to use it in a prompt, the option is grayed out.

Thanks @Blake Hedlin and @Alexander Corradini
Could you please confirm if developer mode is enabled or disabled for you?
If you go to Apps & Connectors, then scroll at the bottom in the connectors page there is a section called Advanced settings once you click on it, then developer mode should be there where you would need to enable it.
Please let me know how it goes.

The Advanced Settings option isn’t showing for me.
Do you know if this is restricted to Admin-level accounts? I’m listed as a “Member,” and it’s not clear from OpenAI’s docs (or ChatGPT) whether only Admins or Owners can configure it.

I also don't see a tab called `Apps & Connectors`, I only have `Connectors` and that page doesn't include any toggle to enable Developer Mode.
I'm an `Owner`. However, I'm wondering if this is related to the plan: We're on `ChatGPT Business`.

I will reach out to ChatGPT folks for asking then, thanks a lot for sharing the screenshots.

Still I will reach out to them to understand why its not working for you.

Im not an owner, Im an admin on Business plan, I went to 'Workspace settings, and 'Published' the connector to my workspace hoping this would fix the issue of the toggle being grayed out:
But it still showing grayed out:

Did OpenAI give you early access to the new Apps SDK? That might explain why @Ibraheem OsamaUI looks different and includes Apps.
I also found this note, but the setup still feels confusing and inconsistent:
"Connecting your MCP server to ChatGPT requires developer mode access:
Once developer mode is active you will see a Create button under Settings → Connectors."

Thanks Jose! That was it for me: I needed to publish the connector. Now I can use the Atlassian connector in prompts.

Adding our voice to this thread. We are facing the exact same "search action not found" error.
This is currently a blocker for our planned integration with Confluence. Hoping for an update from the Atlassian team soon.

I am also still seeing the same issue "This MCP server doesn't implement our specification: search action not found" when trying to set up the atlassian MCP as a Custom ChatGPT Connector.
When does atlassian expect to have a resolution for this issue?
