Watching the Rovo Q&As I've noticed a rise in questions on how to disable Rovo.
Some are arguing, that Rovo is so good that it shouldn't be disabled. However, from a Governance point of view, I get why companies are careful and want the Rollout to be more controlled.
So. TL;DR: You can't deactivate Rovo. But there are still some ways to restrict the use or limit its features.
What is Rovo?
Rovo is a new AI powered experience, that uses Atlassian's Teamwork Graph to enhance (almost) all Atlassian Products. It comes with
* uses AI/LLMs
Can I deactivate Rovo?
No. You cannot deactivate Rovo. You can, however deactivate all its LLM features. Yes, Rovo is AI powered. However, the first three items on the list, Search, Connectors and Studio, are also available if all LLM features are deactived.
You can deactivate LLM features per App in the Organisation Administration by following these instructions: Activate AI for apps | Atlassian Support
Can I give access to only some people?
Rovo is available to all and cannot be restricted. A feature request on activation of LLM features per user is in Progess.
Currently, the only permission you can set is the "Create Agent" permission. A site Admin can do this in Studio. Follow the instructions on here: Rovo agent permissions and governance | Rovo | Atlassian Support
Can I deactivate specific features of Rovo?
Most features cannot be controlled. Like stated above, you can disable all LLM features. With LLM features active, any licensed user can use Chat, Agents and all other features.
In the Organisation Administration, global Admins can disable Web search and the Rollout of Beta features. Go to Apps > AI settings > AI-enabled Apps and switch the tabs.
Workaround for deactivating Agents: Restrict "Create Agent" permission and delete all out-of-the-box Agents provided by Atlassian. You can always get them back from a new (test) site later on.
The Rovo Chrome Extension can only be restricted if your Organisation has a Google Org. You can then ban specific Apps/extensions from being installed.
That's it for now. Do you know of any more ways to "switch off" Rovo (features)? Or are you interested in more Governance content?
Let me know in the comments or send me a message on LinkedIn :)
Note: All information provided are valid for my version of Rovo and as of Dec 8th 2025. You may see different features on your sites.
