Unable to leave workspace

I own a company, and until now I had never used Loom.

Today, I decided to give it a try. When I logged in for the first time, Loom suggested that I join a workspace associated with my company. Since I have many collaborators and was curious about what they have created, I decided to join it.

After joining, I was finally able to see the workspace members. However, I noticed that the workspace admin is someone who no longer works with us, and the company email address associated with their Loom account no longer exists.

I then decided that I wanted to leave this workspace and create a new one where I would be the admin.

The problem is that I cannot leave the workspace. I'm essentially trapped inside this strange workspace, and I don't feel comfortable using Loom for anything if I cannot control my own account or decide which workspace I'm associated with.

Please advise whether there is a way for me to regain control over my own account and choose how I want to use the platform.

Note: If I join additional workspaces, I can leave those without any issues. The problem only exists with this first workspace, where the option to leave simply does not appear.

Hey @sjlavena ,

It's probably that this workspace was suggested to you based on your email domain. Now, for why you're not able to leave a workspace might be in cases where you're an admin or if the workspace has specific membership restrictions.

There might also be differences depending if your workspace is standalone or whether it's integrated within the Atlassian ecosystem.

Are there any Atlassian admins or your IT department who you can reach to help you troubleshoot this? 👀 Things also depend on the workspace plan and access policies set there.

Apart from all of that, you could reach out to Loom support by following steps here Need help with your Loom account? Here’s how to contact Support (and get help faster) > their team should be able to confirm how everything is set up and why you cannot leave the workspace you're referring to. 🎫

Cheers,
Tobi

Thanks for the reply.

The situation is... I am the owner of the company, the domain, the email accounts, and everything related to it, except for this Loom workspace, which an employee apparently created in 2022 without my knowledge.

That employee no longer works for the company. So his registered email with his company name no longer exists. I do not even want to recover admin access to this workspace. I simply want to leave it.

It is odd how permissions work here. I understand that the first person to create a workspace may become the admin, but it is not acceptable to force other users to remain in someone else’s workspace, especially when they own the company and domain associated with it.

If this cannot be resolved, I will keep my company out of Loom. We have already started using an alternative system that gives us control over our own users and allows each user to decide which workspaces they belong to, without being forced into one.

That's definitelly interesting case. I've never experienced it myself, but from what I'm hearing, the UX could surely be improved.

As said earlier, I'd recommend reaching out to Loom support. They should be able to remove you from the workspace and investigate it further. ☝️

If you do find a solution/resolution to this, I'd appreciate if you could share it here.
