Hi everyone,

I’m embedding a Loom video on a SharePoint page using the embed/iFrame code.

The video itself works, but when the page loads, Loom always shows the generic Loom preview image first. After hovering over it, the video preview starts, but the initial Loom image still appears before anything else.

I already tried:

  • adding a custom thumbnail
  • disabling the animated thumbnail
  • re-embedding the video in SharePoint

Unfortunately, none of this changed the initial image shown in SharePoint.

Is there any way to prevent this generic Loom image from appearing first in an embedded Loom video, or is this a fixed behavior of the Loom embed player?

Thanks!

Uh interesting @Mike Maurer 🤔

From what I've found (haven't tested it though) - it could be due to privacy settings. Like if your video privacy is set to Members of this Workspace or Only people added, the video preview (including custom thumbnails) is hidden by default in embedded Looms to protect content.
Try maybe setting video share options to "Anyone with the link can view" to see what will happen.

Also, it could be due to SharePoint caching, but not sure how this can be fixed.

As for solutions, you could try these:

  1. Use "Autoplay" parameter - basically autoplay the video as soon as the page loads
  2. Use linked GIF thumbnail (as described here)
  3. Try duplicating video in Loom and then do the embed

Apart from all of that, you could reach out to Loom support by following steps here: Need help with your Loom account? Here’s how to contact Support (and get help faster) and see what they have to say 👀

Cheers,
Tobi
