How does one sign up for the "free access for educators" these days

The instructions for educational access and how to get verified are unclear now.  The links on Loom's website send me to generic FAQs stuff on Atlassian.  I need more specific instructions. Thanks!

From what I can find, it seems that Atlassian offers discounted licensing for educators via their Classroom License request form. It seems this is is a 75% discount on the paid plans. You can find this form, and submit a request, here: https://www.atlassian.com/solutions/survey/classroom-license-request#/

I did find a page that claims Loom offers their Premium tier free to educators, but I suspect this page may be out of date, as the link redirects to Atlassian's central FAQ. That page was here: https://www.loom.com/use-case/education

It seems someone's already flagged this for Atlassian to come take a look at your question.

The only other item I can think of being beneficial for you to try is reaching out to Atlassian Support directly via support.atlassian.com, specifically their Purchasing and Licensing page. https://www.atlassian.com/company/contact/purchasing-licensing

Thanks for taking the time to answer!  I appreciate your information.  I got my "free access" with Loom prior to Atlassian.  I used to direct my faculty here as it's my favorite, easiest tool.
