AI-Powered Meeting Notes - why can't I upload audio and have it count as a meeting?

Presently, Loom will only accept a calendar feed with invites to upcoming meetings as what causes a meeting to be recorded.

This is a real problem as often recordings arrive after the fact. Also, some meetings are recorded as audio-only, e.g. in the event of poor internet connectivity.

This inflexibility impacts many things, not least in making the case that it would be straightforward to migrate to Confluence and Loom from a competitor product.

Thanks for the feedback, Martin!

AI-powered meeting notes does not currently support "ad hoc" meetings (e.g. when you add a notetaker to a meeting that was not previously scheduled), though we have it on our roadmap to support this in the future.

Can you share more detail about "audio only" meetings? Are these meetings that are via Zoom/Meet/Teams where all participants are camera off?

Thanks!

It's not necessarily from a meeting app. It can be an export from a competitor product.

Also, recently we had a scheduled meeting but the Meeting ID changed at the last minute, so Loom recorded nothing and I had to grab someone else's recording. (Sometimes I'll just record on Otter, which I have on my phone as a backup.)

Right now my workaround is messy, cumbersome and expensive. I pay for a Descript.com account, import the audio, add a video track, downscale the resolution to 480p, ask Descript AI for a chapter summary with loom-compatible MM:SS timestamps, grab any existing summary (e.g. from Fireflies) and smush the whole lot into the Loom summary and chapter headings.

After all that. my pathway to show this in Confluence (to get actions, decisions and meeting notes integration) is so much that I often don't bother. I know you have custom-prompt coming - LMK if you want me to beta test that.

As  I work mainly with non-profits , who are focused on their mission not on workarounds in gaps in technologies, these approaches burden me - who is advocating for and supporting productivity in their efforts.

Another example - I've had situations where Loom continued to record but stopped processing the content of the meeting. I want to be able send the Zoom again to Loom. From the file, or from the list of meetings in the recording system.

Going via support is a barrier and cumbersome, as nice as the support people are.

Another example - Loom mobile has "record audio only". Which is handy on a cell phone in the event that for example a messing is conducted over Discord and there's no bot around to record the meeting.

However...

loom meeting from android audio.png

After the meeting I see the "Android recording" in Loom, but it's horribly manual, tedious and error prone to make-the-page, embed the Loom, hit transcript in Loom, copy the transcript to an LLM (in Confluence AI or ChatGPT) etc. etc.

I don't want to do it, and my community will not.

Is this in the October release also?

Another example - today I need upload a past audio-only recording made in Otter.ai

It's nothing short of stupid to force me to turn this in to a video first.

While I can record an audio on my phone why the heck I can't upload the file adds more complexity to my thought process.

Ideally this would let me shut down otter.ai accounts in favour of Loom. Maybe I could use Rovo + an MCP for Otter but a simple audio upload is a lot less frustrating.
