I have a well-populated WBS Gantt that is being used for a live project.

I wish to convert the data into standard Jira fields but I'm concerned about doing so in case my whole project is compromised.

What are the risks of doing this conversion, if any?

Hello Simon 🙌🏻 welcome to the community!

Thank you for posting - Raphael from WBS Gantt-Chart support team here.

We understand your concern to may impact your environment, but the data conversion from WBS Gantt-Chart unique data to Jira fields it's still recommended by us. It brings some benefits for you:

  • Geting data via Rest;
  • Search issues with JQL;
  • Maintain all Jira data in only one database;

About your concerns, here are some points to grant security to your data and the risks about the migration:

  • Until the migration is completed, you will still have access to the Use WBS Gantt-Chart unique data option in the Issues setting. So it will not be lost even if the migration gets failed;
  • We recommend exporting your Gantts to MSProject or Excel, so your data is preserved somewhere else;
  • We recommend scheduling a downtime when doing the migration to avoid issues. This downtime period finishes as soon as the Data Conversion stops, either by success or failure. In case of failure, please make sure to change your field configurations to Use WBS Gantt-Chart unique data, to completely rollback the process.

Also not ruling out to ensure the app has the proper permissions:

  • You have to grant WBS Gantt-Chart viewing, editing, and linking issues permission. To achieve this, please grant the following to "atlassian-addons-project-access" project role.
    • "Browse Projects", "Edit Issues", and "Link Issues" permission in every permission scheme.
    • Every issue level in every issue security scheme.

This should help to clarify your question, Simon. Please let us know if you have any further comments or questions on the matter.

Kind Regards,
