i need to change the hierarchy in my instance. Currently we have Epic > Story > subtask, in new hierarchy i need Epic> feature > story > task > subtask.
How we can do this ? I hope this change will only be applicable to my instance not globally.
Hi @shivani_shirguppi ,
Jira currently supports adding hierarchy level only above Epic level. Please refer to this feature request for more details - https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-19407
However there are marketplace plugins like Structure by Tempo which gives ability to have flexible hierarchy in the Plan view.

Changing hierarchy will affect your whole Jira instance, so it is recommended to check first in the sandbox instance. Could you please explain what do you mean by affecting globally. Also please go through this article it may help you - https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/Does-changing-the-issue-type-hierarchy-change-the-hierarchy/qaq-p/2389883

you may already know that Jira Premium allows additional hierarchy levels, however these hierarchy levels are always only on top of epics. Adding something below epics is possible, but tricky - see this thread for a thorough discussion on the matter.
As you'll see in the linked discussion, one way to implement your exact hierarchy could be via issue links. Issue links give you full flexibility in how you want to model your hierarchy, and unlike Jira Premium's hierarchy configuration, don't globally impact your Jira site.
The downside is that issue links aren't natively recognised as parent/child relationships, so you won't get a lot of hierarchy-related features out of the box. This being said, if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, there's a number of hierarchy-related apps available that can help with this.
E.g., this is how your hierarchy could look in the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira:
(In this example, features, stories, and tasks are connected to each other via issue links.)
Any questions just let me know,
Best,
Hannes
