Can I assign to jira user group using Jira automation rule?

I want the automation rule to help me assign to a group of users by default when the sub-task is created. How do I do that? Which field should I use (single/multiple), how do I create the group (is it via user management), and how do I set this value? Currently I tried creating the group and setting the value via automation rule, but it does not work as it does not allow me to input a group.

Hi,

Jira does the right thing with the assignee, it only lets you set it to the one single person who is currently responsible for dealing with the issue.  You can not set groups or multiple assignees (because that's a dreadful thing to do)

You will need to create a new field for multiple "people to talk to if the owner (assignee) is not available".  As you say, a group picker is a good option for this, it's a bit less fuss than a multi-user picker (which would need your people to understand who might have to be named), and your automation will work fine with that.
