"IT Asset Management" sidebar option

I was showing the sidebar customization to our newer colleagues and noticed "IT asset management" there. We certainly use Assets and have IT stuff in there, but this seems different. I don't even see "IT asset management" in the sidebar when its enabled.

I've checked that this isn't some beta feature we haven't turned on in Jira and I haven't been able to find information on this online.

Has anyone else seen this or know what it is?

I have the same experience as you. 

I have searched JAC and not yet found an issue related to this searching for "itam" or "it asset management" as an issue summary. Nor have I found information on this phenomena in Jira/JSM Cloud in a general internet search.

I have submitted a support case to try to get an answer to this.

This was the response from Atlassian technical support:

I managed to reproduce the same issue myself and we are sorry for the confusion this might have caused.

For now, to access assets, we should still use the “Assets App” (yellow icon), but we are working on a new menu that will provide a better experience for teams.

Anyway, since that option is already available in the UI, I have submitted a bug so our team can take a look and fix it.

• Removing "IT asset Management" from your sidebar gives a new menu option that returns a 404

Thanks, @Trudy Claspill ! So interesting the direction this might take and curious if they will post an article about the change. Assets is so much broader than IT Assets so curious if they're splitting it off or what. Guess we'll find out!

I tried toggling it a few times in my sidebar customization and it briefly showed where I could click it where it pointed to this URL

but it led to a 404 error. Possibly something coming soon or maybe because we don't use any asset agents on our endpoints it's not available, I'm not sure.
