add default approval groups for system changes in JIRA Service Management

Pete Tiddy June 27, 2023

For a given project I want to add 2 approval groups by default to every system change raised.

This should also leave the option to add further approval groups if necessary.

I am fairly new to JIRA SM.  It seems that this should be fairly straightforward but I haven't been able to figure it out so would very much appreciate some assistance.

Many thanks.

Hi @Pete Tiddy

To achieve this you'll need to configure an automation for your approval process in Jira Service Management.

  1. Ensure that you have already set up the approval steps in your project workflow.
  2. Go to your project settings in Jira Service Management and click on "Automation."
  3. Depending on your configuration, you can set the automation to trigger when an issue is moved to the approval status in your workflow.
  4. Under the "When" section in the automation configuration, select "Issue transitioned" and choose the specific status that has your approval process, in my case its "Waiting for Approval".
  5. Under the "Then" section, select "Edit issue fields" and choose the field approver groups.
  6. Select the 2 groups you'd like to be 'default'

Hope this helps!
