The Jira field 'Category' with field type 'Category' is always on 'CLOSED'.
I am talking about this field:
When I try to edit this field, I receive the following message:
"This field was created by Jira or one of its plugins, and can't be edited"
As you can see below:
Now, as you can see in the screenshot above, there is a link 'Edit options'. And in the past I was able to define some values for the category. But this option is completely gone. Below you can find the category values I was able to setup. Now I want to change them, but I can't. Any ideas how I can still edit them?
Hello @Koen Ferlin
System fields are locked and must remain intact as part of the configuration.
You can manage the category here:
Categorize work items in the list view | Jira Cloud | Atlassian Support
Hello @Arkadiusz Wroblewski
Thank you for your quick feedback. I followed the steps you have sent me, but in my list view I am also unable to change these settings:
My IT department confirmed me that I am still admin in the software, so normally that should not be the problem.
Kind regards
Koen
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
Then you are probably missing some permissions, because I can edit the options everywhere on my side.

I see the same as you, but when you click on the 'Edit options', then I am unable to edit anything:
Also, in my roles pannel, I have the following roles active for my account. This has not been changed last few months:

Only space admins can add or edit categories, and if you do not have space admin permission, the category field remains locked.
Also there´s ancient bug [JRACLOUD-79961] All options in a Category field are disabled - Create and track feature requests for Atlassian products.

Hello @Koen Ferlin
By the way, which subscription model are you on Standard or Premium?
Also, please remove the personal data from the screenshot.
As a test, ask your admin to try making changes to this field. If that turns into too much effort or is blocked by the system field behavior, I would suggest creating your own Category custom field instead.

We are on the Standard model (always have been since starting with Jira).
I removed my personal data from the screenshot, my apologies.
My admin gave me the same rights as his. We encounter the same situation. The reason I wanted to work with this field is because you can group on this field in the Board view. Something that is not possible with my own Category custom field.
And I was able to define my own Categories in the past, as you can see in one of my previous screenshot. I don't understand why this option would switch from Standard to Premium. Does not seem fair for the users. Not being able to sort our board on Category, would make the JSM for our department quite useless.
Thank you for checking this.
Kind regards
Koen

No, this should not be connected to the subscription model.
One more test you can try:
Create a temporary test space/project, add or show the Category column in the list view, and then try to edit the Category options there.
If it works in a new test space/project, the problem is probably specific to the existing space or the existing Category field configuration.
If it fails there as well, it is more likely a site-level issue or a Jira Cloud regression.
At this point then, Let your Admin Open a Ticket and Investigate that from Atlassian.

I tried adding a new space and changing the 'Category' options there, but it is also not possible. I will check further with our IT Manager to open a ticket with Atlassian.
Kind regards
Koen
