I realize that out of the box, you can not do this, but Is there a plugin available that enables you to truncate the size of the comments in email notifications?
Example:
Internal employee gives public update: "We have restarted the AMXWEB01 server. It is back up and running. "
The email notification we want to provide is : "We have restarted.... "
The customer would get a preview only for the update and would have to log into the system to see the full public comment.
Thanks for the reply. That looks like it is for the min/max value for the comment field internally. I'm looking for the ability to only deliver part of the message contents via an email notification. This would require the customer to log in and open the actual ticket to read the entirety of the message.
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
i expect that would have to be done outside of Jira. maybe there is some addon so check Marketplace.

Yeah... I am figuring as much after poking around. I was hoping to find someone with some experience that knew about a plugin. I've looked around the marketplace to no avail.
