Subtasks in Jira Cloud/Service Desk

Phil Beckman June 24, 2019

I'm trying to set up a Jira Service desk project in Jira Cloud and running into a problem with sub-tasks.

In short, the Create Sub-Task button does not appear for issues in the JSD project. If I create a SCRUM project (Jira Software) the create Sub-Task will appear but not for my JSD project.

I tried a bunch of various experiments before eventually resorting to the following:

  • Created a Jira Software/SCRUM project
    • Create Sub-Task appears for issues in this project
  • Created a JSD project
    • Create Sub-Task does not appear for issues in this project
  • Changed all schemes in the JSD project to use the same scheme as the SCRUM project.
    • Create Sub-Task still does not appear for issues in the project

Given that both projects now share the same schemes...I can't figure how create sub-task is missing but...it is.

You need to ensure that the sub-task issuetype is associated with the JSD project. Verify the following...

Project - project settings - issue types - action - edit issue types - add sub-task

Thanks for the reply but that's not the problem.  Edit Issue Types simply allows you to edit the issue type scheme and the issue type schem my 2 projects are using already has sub-task in it.

Here's a SS of my JSD project's issue type scheme.Screen Shot 2019-06-25 at 8.15.33 AM.png

Quick update on this. I claim this is a bug in the new look and feel for Jira. If I switch to the old view and click the ellipsis in the upper right, Create Sub-task is there. Its only in the new view that its missing.

I've opened a support ticket with Atlassian.
