How to update the status of JIRA service desk tickets from Open to In Progress (automatically)?
Why you want to do that? Just remove the open status if it's obsolete. But other than that you could do that with Jira automation if it's installed on your instance.
Thanks Alex!
I would like to have a trigger that would update the status of Open tickets to In Progress automatically (in some support projects, the response time need to be quick).

Do you have jira automation installed or scriptrunner, or JMWE?

We dont have JIRA automation. Should it be installed? Is it licensed?

It is a paid app. But I've asked you about what apps you have a couple of comments previously. Do you have any apps installed?

No. We don't have any apps installed except the basic JIRA service desk.

Then you can't do it with the basic jira functionalities. My best guess would be to search for a free app (if you can't pay) in the marketplace and see if you come up with anything. Try the lite version of Jira Automation. It might do the trick.
