Service desk Report - Edit Series - Advanced show em

Chrissy December 28, 2018

Hello,

I tried to create custom report under Service desk- Report tab.

I was aiming to create series with Organization parameter as categlory.

However, when I create / edit the series, is not working.

1. Create series: Will show up : Please edit in Advanced mode. Click "Advanced"  The row is empty

2. Edit series: When I click "Edit", seems okay, the JQL is laying there for me, however, after I clicked and tried to edit it, the column became empty.

I searched through Community form with Service desk Series this keywords but didn't find a correspond question.

Is anything done wrong by me?

@Chrissy, so you enter the JQL and click Add and it adds the series correct? Then you go back and "Edit" the series and click in the JQL and it goes blank? Are you on Server or Cloud?

@Jack Brickey  I am on Server.

I can use Basic function to select some basic parameters.

Thanks.

When I clicked the parameter which system automatically pops up, it allows me to click through their default step, so I can click through and create a series with Advanced mode.

However, the "Filtered by" column is empty so I can not view my JQL parameters.

(I can go back to Basic mode to view the result, but for some parameters seems they are not allowed to view in Basic mode.

It will show "This query is too complex to display in Simple mode" )

Also, when I added and go back to edit, it is empty so it's hard to edit it.

if this is occurring in multiple browswers I would contact Atlassian Support

Thanks for your reminder!

I tried after seeing your reminder, found it indeed happened in different browser.

Now I finally contacted Atlassian support ( looks like a starter license can not raise a support ticket but using anonymous can raise a support ticket. It's weird.)

Many thanks!

TBH I find it hard to believe there is an issue here as it is very basic functionality. While there certainly could be an issue I have never seen this so I would like to rule out misunderstanding. To that end, let's rewind a bit.

I would like to first start w/ a few point on how this should be working and some limitations to be aware of:

  • You have Basic and Advanced JQL filter capabilities.
  • Basic provides a more user friendly I/F for newbies. Underlying Basic is the actual JQL that runs the DB query.
  • Advanced provide much more flexibility as some JQL functions are not easily presentable in a Basic UI view. Or at least Atlassian didn't choose to attempt to do so. Personally I rarely will use Basic anymore.
  • If you enter a filter query in Basic and then click on Advance it should always display the JQL translation. This is a good way to get started w/ Advanced, i.e. enter a Basic query and then click on Advanced and tweak to meet your needs.
  • As I mentioned above, some JQL functions will not translate to Basic so if you attempt to go back to Basic you may get the error you mentioned previously.
  • If, in Reports or Issue Search, you go directly to Advanced it will be blank. You should be able to enter the desired JQL and you should see auto-complete occur.

Now, if you are saying that you have an existing report that you are attempting to edit and the Advanced JQL is blank I find that very odd and would be most interested in understand more about this specific report and the specifics of the JQL behind it.
