Portal access

Matthew Cashdollar October 9, 2018

I am supposed to evaluate Service Desk for my company.

When I go to https://randmcnally.jira.com/servicedesk/ , I see the message "You don't have access to any portals." How do I gain access to a "portal" ?

Good Morning Matthew,

  • Please ensure that your Administrator has provided you access to 'Browse' the project.
    • If you do not have the ability to browse projects, you will not be able to view it.
  • Do you know if you are a 'Service Desk Agent'.
    • If you are being asked to evaluate the process (workflows and schemes) you would need to become an agent to view the nitty-gritty details of the page.  I
    • f you are just being asked to enter a ticket, and provide feedback on the user experience, that would just be sending an email or opening a request via the link that you provided.
  • If you are already an agent you would:
  1. Login to JIRA
  2. Navigate to Projects
  3. Select the Project or use the filter in the top navigate pane and select 'Service Desk'

I am the "Site Admin" and in the "administrators" and "jira-servicedesk-users" groups.

When I go to Projects and Filter by Service Desk, there are no Service Desk projects.

When I choose "Create Project" I named it "Service Desk" but it created a software project for Jira, rather than a Service Desk Project.

Basically I need to know how to create a Service Desk project.

Hi Matthew,

  1. Login to JIRA
  2. Navigate to Projects
  3. In the upper right corner of the screen select 'Create project'
  4. In the template panel select the 'Change' link
  5. Using the scroll bar navigate to 'Internal' or 'External' service desk
  6. Click on the appropriate option for your use
  7. Click 'Select'
  8. Name your project
  9. Begin your customization(s)

Hopefully this helps a bit more.

That worked. Thanks.

Hi Matthew,

did you create a service desk project?

Best

I don't see where to do that.

We are already using Confluence and Jira so I am not sure how to get to where you configure the service desk. It keeps putting me in Jira. When I tried to create a Service Desk project, it made a Jira project instead.

Service Desk is a component of JIRA so it would make a project.  Just to be clear, you do have Service Desk, JIRA and Confluence, correct?  They are three separate products offered by Atlassian.  When you make a Service Desk project, it does become a project in JIRA.

yes we have all three
