Orignial estimate

auj012 February 1, 2022

Every work item in Jira has a "original estimate" which is basically the time  that one needs to spend on a work item, This is work hand in hand with logged time and Remaining estimate = Original estimate - time logged. However I have noticed that when I change Original estimate the remaining estimate is still calculated against the the first value  or original estimate. Is this expected ? Is this a Jira configuration ? Scope change is pretty common so changing estimate is common as well but the remaining estimate does not seem to be taking this into account ? When logging time it always takes the first value that was ever populated. Is that expected ?

I read somwehere that in cases like this when logging time the developer is expected to the make the change, which does not make sense to me, the tool should work for us not the other way around right ?

Is this the default behavior or a configuration thing please advice

The behavior is indeed as expected. The idea is to not change OE. It represents the original baseline plan. In the case of replanning this is captured by adjusting the remaining time rather than letting it be automatically calculated when work is logged.
