Original Estimate visible on sub-task in JSM even if not on the screen

Hi everyone,

I’m facing a confusing behavior with Time Tracking on sub-tasks in Jira Service Management (Company-managed project).

Here is the situation:

• Time tracking is enabled on the project

• I need to use the Time tracking feature

• On sub-tasks, the field Original Estimate is not added to any screen (create/edit/view)

• However, Original Estimate still appears on the issue:

  • in the issue details / time tracking section

  • and seems to be taken into account by Jira

This raises a few questions for me:

1. Is it possible to use time tracking without Original Estimate on sub-tasks?

2. Is there a way to fully remove or disable Original Estimate while keeping time tracking enabled?

3. Or is this a system limitation where Original Estimate is always active as long as time tracking is enabled, even if it’s not on the screen?

I understand that Original Estimate is a system field, but the current behavior is confusing since the field is not visible/editable yet still present.

Any clarification or best practice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Chloe WILMOTTE 

Have you try to remove the fields from the layout associated with the Sub-Tasks type ? Also make sure tu have associated a dedicated Screen Scheme to your type.

Yes, only the time tracking field (which is needed) is present on the screen of the subtask (and its parent). The subtask has its dedicated screen scheme.

Ya but even if you remove it from the Work Item Layout, it should not be displayed no ?

Do you have a screenshot of what is displayed and should not ?
