Need to add a customer to a service desk poropject

I added the customer but the username is a bunch of weird characters.  The email and full name are okay.  The customer is also not able to log in with email address.  It says password not correct but I set it myself as an admin.  All other customers have their email as their username.  What am I doing wrong?

That did not fix it.  I used an email address this time and it worked

Hi Randy,

 

I'd recommend checking the security logs under your JIRA_HOME/log folder to see if there's any further information about why this user can't login. Also, have you attempted to re-name this user through the administration > user management > users section to see if this is indeed a problem with the user name at all?

Also: Once you do login, check if the user can see the Service Desk project desired. If not, it's probably because the Service Desk is not open and customers need to be added directly to it. You can check this on the project settings of the Service Desk project.
