Since we got the new transition screen, we have to click to expand the "Log work" field to enter time spent on an issue. It used to just be a single field, where we could enter the time without having to expand it. Does anyone know if it's possible to remove the extra click and just have this as a field - without removing/changing the field, since it's used on all 100k existing issues

This change is part of Atlassian's ongoing user interface (UI) updates in Jira Cloud, particularly related to the new issue view and streamlined transition screens. The design philosophy behind these changes is often to:
De-clutter the interface: By collapsing less frequently used fields or sections, Atlassian aims to make the primary actions and fields more prominent and reduce visual noise.
Focus on essential fields: The idea is to present only the most critical information upfront, and allow users to expand additional details as needed.
Is It Possible to remove the extra click! As far as I tried, there is currently no built-in configuration option or setting within Jira Service Management or Jira Cloud to force the "Log work" field to always be expanded on the new transition screen. And this behavior is an intentional design decision by Atlassian for the newer UI.
Workarounds:
For logging work outside of a transition, remember that you can always log work directly from the issue view by clicking on the ...
(More actions) menu or the "Log work" button (if configured for your issue layout). Please refer this Atlassian documentation on log work on an issue

Not sure how this makes the transition screens more "streamlined", since this adds a click and actually makes the process take longer, and adds more work for our agents, which is the opposite of what you're trying to achieve, here. It may not seem like much, but when you work on a busy helpdesk, every click counts. Logging work time before closing the issue is not really helpful, because it's not mandatory and can easily be forgotten.
Can this please be added as a feature request or added to feedback for the new experience? Don't know why anyone thought this was a good idea!
