Hi all,

We have the versions of SD and core installed.  The plan is to upgrade but for the moment there are too many factors that prohibit us from doing so.

Any guidance on how to link Service Desk issues to a Jira Core project issue would be appreciated.   I've looked through the documentation and the community but perhaps we are limited by the older version of SD?

From Steven's response here it appears perhaps it is not possible?

Thanks in advance and for your patience in regards to my question,
Jim

The feature to create a new linked issue from within an existing Jira issue was introduced in Jira 7.1.0, see release notes Jira 7.1.   In this case, Steven's answer doesn't apply here.  The limitation there is in regards to creating new linked issues from Jira Software/Agile projects.  In Software projects, this is not something you can currently do from a software project.

In your case, you can create new linked issues from either a Jira Core or a Jira Service Desk project if you are using a Jira 7.1.x or higher version.   In your current version, you can still link issues together.  You just don't have the 'create new linked issue' option in the More menu on an issue details page.

Since you are looking to upgrade Jira, I would strongly suggest that you upgrade Jira to a 7.0.x version first, and update all your plugins for Jira (especially service desk).   This version is required in order to make sure that your plugin data can be upgraded successfully.  After which point you can then upgrade to the latest versions of Jira/Jira Service Desk.

Thanks Andrew,

As our upgrade most likely won't occur until early 2019, can you detail how to link Jira SD issue to a Jira Software project?  Apologies for my lack of experience in this matter.  I will need to document the process to convey to our development team.

Sure, the process to create an issue link is something that only licensed Jira users can do (meaning this is not something that can be done in the Customer portal or by users that are unlicensed service desk users).   Steps to do this are outlined in Linking issues.  I realize that document is for Jira 7.3, but the steps for creating issue links are the same in your version.
