Hello Atlassian community,
I'm new to the Jira products as I just recently took over our Jira from a former co-worker who left our company. Therefore everything is new for me and I'm still trying to get into the Jira products.
I've created a service desk that should be used as support ticket system for an other company. The creation of the service desk was no problem, but due to the lack of knowledge i cant move on. I don't understand how i can make the service desk accessible for an outside user. I've looked into many articles and similar question, but I cant figure these ponits:
- The url to the service desk looks like this: http://jira:8080/servicedesk/customer/portal/6
but as far as i understand this url only works in the local network. How can i make the service desk url accessible from outside our network? Can I add the customer to the service desk, generate an url for the customer and let the customer log into it, form his own network, using the customer profile I created? OR does this only work if the customer is using jira products himself?
- We have another Service Desk for an other company, which has a custom url in the details window of the project settings. Would that be the link for the other company? If so, what preparations must our IT make for it to work, or what steps must i take the generate a url for the external customer?
Thank you for the help!
Greetings,
Georges
Hello @Georges Bruns
To make the service desk portal accessible to customers outside of your company's network you will need to talk to your internal support organization that manages your company's network. They will have to take the steps necessary to make that server accessible from the internet. The networking team should have the knowledge and expertise to determine what needs to be done to accomplish that.
