Setting up Jira Service Desk Cloud for the first time. I understand I can't mess with the URLs and set up custom domains or anything, but there's a setting under an individual Project > Settings > Details > URL, and it's bothering me because it wants a full URL with http/https on it, but it doesn't actually seem to do anything. Any idea what it's actually for?

It's a field you can use as a pointer to external information about the project.  It is commonly used to point to the related project related documentation in Confluence e.g.
