JSM Approvals - Approver groups

I have a really easy use case but looking for help I'm trapped by most of the docs referring to the old workflow UI.

JSM - Team Managed project.

WIP workflow:

On awaiting approvals I have:

If I click on "At least 1 approver..." I can set it up as per below with "Approvers" as the approver field.  I believe this was the one built into JSM.

All that works...if you want to add individual users and have them all needing to approve to be able to move the issue onto "Done".

However - I want to use Groups.  So I have set up three groups in the Jira Directory with two people in each group.  I then found I had to add a group picker (multiple groups) field to the screen, which I did.  Again, I picked a default JSM field called "Approver groups".  However, when I go back to the image directly above and try to find that in the "Select or name the approver field", it isn't there and only lets me try to create it.

So in summary - how do I get the Groups that I set up in Jira Directory to be the groups used in the approval process?  It's driving me to distraction! :D  It looks like the old workflows UI had some more options I'm just not seeing in the new one.

Hi Aaron,

There is a good chance that Approval Groups will not work with Team-managed projects. I do not use those and strongly recommend that users not use them. Not much help, I know, but that's part of the limitations with Team-managed projects.

AFAIK you can only use approvals in a team-managed project, unless I've missed something somewhere

Hi John,

Yes I'd spotted that too on my journey to find a solution.  It's from 2021 and shows the old UI.  I'm specifically looking for a way to do it using the new Workflow UI or some other workaround.

**EDIT** - My bad, I didn't read every comment, so missed the Atlassian Team member saying "The feature is only available for company-managed projects right now."

and I'm trying to use that built in Approver groups field.  Nevertheless I also tried to add a new custom field and added it to the appropriate screen...still nothing.

I think it's talking about the old UI when he says

Next to Approver source, select where you want your approvers to come from. (Note: If you don’t see the custom field you want to get approvers from, make sure its Applicable context is set to Global).

Approver source I think is what we're seeing in the new UI as Select or name the approver field

I also checked that Approver groups field has applicable context of Global.

Any other ideas?
