We perform external system imports regularly. However, the option to select issue type is not available. I am an org and jira administrator--there are some conversations that this is required. Am I missing something?

Can you maybe share some information from where you're doing the import? Are you navigating to Jira administration > System > External system import or are you importing items via global item search?
Also, if you're using Jira administration to import items, are you using the new or the old import experience?

Note: There seem to be slight differences when it comes to the way of importing:

Seems like not all screens/pages are aligned with new terminology. 👀

Tobi, thank you for your reply. I am accessing from the Jira administration import. I tried both "work type" and "issue type" but neither option is available.
This transition from issue type to work type seems to be incomplete on the part of Atlassian. I will read through the link you provided for importing to see if anything is noted.

I'm guessing you pre-select the Jira project where you'd like to import those items? Does this project have different work types or potentially only one work type? I'm aiming towards the direction that, if there's only one work type, potentially you won't be able to select this field (although I haven't tried that case).
Also, what project type are we talking about here? Business, software or maybe even team-managed?
Any additional info would be insightful, I guess. 👀

On using the import, from Jira administration can you use the old importer.?
This option is still available on the external system import option in Jira administration.
