Is there are way to escape '\' characters when entering 'Instructions' to a form using wiki markup?

I'm trying to be descriptive with my form to show users, for instance, the share path from Windows to help define the information needed in a request for share permissions, e.g., to use:

\\servername\sharename$

 I cannot seem to prevent the line breaks from the '\\' characters.

By default the "\\" is the wiki markup for line break.  Have you try to just adding the field description on your request type form setup.  It will ignore the \\ wiki markup treatment and will not give the line break behavior -
