My apologies if this was asked and answered already. I'm very new to Insight and have read a lot of documents, but I can't find if it's possible for data from a Windows device to be automatically uploaded to JSM cloud without the need for the discovery tool. More than half of our users are remote and don't need to connect to our network.
My working theory is the discovery agent can installed on each device. A scan is then completed by default every 24 hours. For the data to reach JSM, the discovery tool must be run. The tool "picks up" the data from the device and transfers to the JSM cloud.
As we look at Azure AD Joined devices in the future, I'm not sure how Insights would function properly.
Thank you
David
Hi @David Watts ,
i had the same headaches like you, but i have successfully created a working prototype to go around the remote (not connected) problem.
I have used the agent with a configured SFTP connection. So the client pushes the data to one of my systems, which i can access.
In a second step I’ve used the discovery tool OR/AND collector ( not sure about this right now) to upload the data to JSM cloud.
I remember that i have additional thoughts to use the tool directly as a service on the client, but the agent seems to be a better solution.
i remember that you have to put the password in clear text into the initial config file, but after the first usage it is locally and client specific encrypted.
I hope that helps. If you have aome further questions, let me know.
Thank you @Frederic Wolf for your reply. After speaking with a consultant, it appears a client sending data directly to the cloud isn't possible today. Though it is supposed to be on table for an enhancement.
Thanks again,
David
