Incident and change number prefixes

David_King June 23, 2020

Hello

I know Jira issue numbering is based on the project - eg. PRJ-0001 etc.

But is there a way to include the type of issue into the numbering as you get in ServiceNow?  So that your Incidents start with INC and requests start with REQ?  Can this be done without having to create different projects for incidents/requests/changes?

If not - then how do you work with the numbering where your IT staff are used to seeing tickets prefixed with INC/REQ and they instantly know what they are dealing with?

No, you'd need different projects

We train them to look at the issue instead of assuming that it's the right type from key.  In other words, train them out of a legacy way of doing things

Hello @David_King welcome to the community. You can't do that with jira, I would configure the queues with the issue types as part of the columns information or queues per issue type. As you use it you get used to seeing the icon or the issue types , for me is so natural that wouldn't add any value doing something as you mention. It's a matter of usage
