Import New Users and Update Existing Users via CSV File?

Hello,

My team manages a service desk and we are running into an issue maintaining our users and a specific field we frequently utilize.  One of our fields that we fill out in our tickets is Department.  We often find ourselves dealing with tickets from brand new end users and find that our custom field of Deparment (a drop down menu) is outdated or doesn't account for user departments that have never previously been entered in the system.  We want to keep this field a drop down menu (not a free text field) for consistent reporting purposes so my team is trying to figure out a way to streamline the process of adding a new Department every time we find that it is outdated.  We have managed to obtain a csv file from Active Directory (we get a new csv file every week from AD) that includes individual columns for:

Display Name, Full Name, First Name, Last Name, Username, Email, and Department

We are looking to take the above data from the csv file and:

1.) Add new users to Jira without sending an email notification to them so we preemptively have them in our system before they even submit a ticket

2.) Take the Department column and cross reference with our existing Department field to add new values if needed

3.) Potentially update existing user information (such as their Department) weekly by cross referencing with the csv file to maintain the same data available in Active Directory

 
Can someone point us in the right direction of how we can accomplish this or let us know if there is an easier way to accomplish what we are looking to do?

Hi Bella,

1 - It's possible to disable the notification by clicking on "view or customize the invitation email" when adding a customer.

- If you want to disable the notification for internal users, you must uncheck the option "Send invitation email".

2 - For the Department custom field, it's necessary to manually update the options, there is no automation to update the custom field's options.

3 - Jira only stores the customers' email and name, so it will not be possible to update their department or any other information because we don't have other fields on their profile or on the customers' page.
