I was invited to a phishing org, how do I leave the project?

Vitor Lobao August 13, 2023

I have been invited (and I've accepted the invite) to a fake service desk project. The project contained some attempts to get people(me and others invited) to click on links on the existing issues as if they were forms to request payment on behalf of supposed users.

classic phishing preying on greed, anyways, after deleting all the issues to prevent people from clicking on it and creating an issue mentioning everyone that it was a scam site, I noticed there's no way to leave the project. Is that right?

can anyone help me leave a jira service project without asking my "administrator" aka the criminal attempting to scam me out of my money?

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Jira does not let people arbitrarily leave a project or system.  It shouldn't do; it's technically illegal in a lot of places.  But Alsassian also has a problem in that it is too easy to set up Atlassian accounts and then Cloud systems, which I suspect has happened here.

There are two things you should do:

  • Send all offending emails to abuse@atlassian.com No need to edit or explain, just forward them with all the headers.  Literally, in most email clients, just click "forward", and edit nothing.  Atlassian want to see the addresses and headers.
  • Block the sender in your email client.  It might take a while for Atlassian to shut down the site, so blocking the email in your client will make it quieter while they look.
