How to remove a user from the project customer list

Hello, I was wondering how to remove a user from being a customer from a specific project.
The user is not added to a customer organization within the project so there is no obvious option to remove the user.
I would also like to note that the user in question is an org admin like myself, could that be the case why I am unable to remove the user?
If yes, then why am I able to remove the user if the user is part of a customer organization?
I saw that a way is to completely remove the user as a customer but this only works if the user is a portal only customer. Not if it is an internal user or a member of some groups for example.
