How to import an exported DC (Assets) Insights Object Schema and data into the cloud. Data Manager?

TheClarinetGuy144 November 8, 2024

I see there is a new Import feature in cloud for Assets:  Data Manager.  However, I'm having issues trying to figure out how to migrate a DC (Asset) Object Scheme to the cloud ... include the object data.

I did an export on DC, specifying the Objects and underlying data to be exported.  It created a ZIP file.  The Zip file contains a couple of CSV files, XML files, a Properties file, and a Sub directory named "Data".

Do I have to somehow import the Object Schema XML first and the one by one import the CSV data?  This is a very straightforward scenario for those migrating Assets/Insights to the cloud.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Hi @TheClarinetGuy144 ,

I would suggest you follow the steps in the following official KB article: Migrate Assets (previously Insight) data from Datacenter/Server into Insight for JSM Cloud

While it might be possible to, somehow, import things with Data Manager we haven't managed to test that one out yet. Data Manager is actually a 'checkpoint' and the tool that gathers all the data from one system, cleans it, and then imports it to Assets in Cloud. However, this tool is still in beta so there might not be that many actual use cases for it.

We're currently testing Data Manager as well, so we might try it out for migrating Assets data from DC to Cloud. I can share any findings I have here, once we try it out.

Cheers,
Tom
