How to add developers as participants without costing an additional license

I was using the project role Service Desk collaborators to allow our developers to comment on JSD issues (internal comments) and view the issues.

However they have no access to the Jira Service Desk issue and can't comment.

Can you please explain how I can add participants that can place internal comments and view the issues without costing me another license? And what project roles are the default roles I should use?

  1. Create a group under user management
  2. add JSW users to the group
  3. edit the permissions in the JSD project to include the group for browse, comment

This link suggests there is a ROLE that Collaborators can be added to ... if only! this would make it so much easier. But this Collaborator role that does not add a new licensee just doesn't exist in JSM in 2024
