How does Insight hidden attributes work?

Hello,

In Insight, in the attributes configuration there is an option that says hidden. I was hopping this option hid the attribute from view. But it does not. Does anyone know how it works or has good documentation on it? Should it hide it only from some views? is it only for some project roles?

This option hides the attribute only from users in the "insight-users role". That is all it does.
