I initially scp atlassian-servicedesk-3.15.3-x64.bin from the site to my home directory on my linux server. I ran the installer following the prompts for the upgrade. Once completed i was unable to either access the site or once i did log in it was white blank screen. I went ahead an uninstall service desk and now unable to create the directory once running the installed again.
error:
The directory you have selected is not a valid JIRA service Desk installation directory.
There is no roll-back, and I suspect your "uninstall" may have removed the service completely, so there's no install for the next run to upgrade!
You'll need to work out exactly what it has done - do you have the "jira home" directory ok? (Don't panic if not, but if you don't have it, it's going to be harder).
The basic idea is that you're going to need to install a blank copy of the target version, make sure it works ok, and then point it at the old database.
My /opt/atlassian/jira directory is empty.
However, there is jira-7.12.1-back.zip in /opt/atlassian directory

Ok, that's good, it suggests it took a backup before overwriting anything on upgrade.
You could try installing an empty 7.12.1 and importing that .zip into it!

i was able to install upgraded service desk of 3.15.3. Upon logging in the page is blank. I edited the server.xml adding "/jira" in the context path. I am not sure what i am missing at this point.
