Hi all,
I am a new JIRA admin and have recently taken over the tool. In our company, the Jira License and Confluence licenses are added to users via AD groups.
As we have more users than needed in Jira, we wanted to do a license clean-up. We did this removing the AD group and synchronizing it with Atlassian Cloud through a third-party: OKTA.
We still have the same amount of people with the license, however. Our next step was to manually go to each user under Jira Admin > User Management and remove the tick from "Jira Software" > After doing this to a few people, it caused an issue in which AD was no longer synchronizing through OKTA with Atlassian Cloud and we had to contact Atlassian Support to stop provisioning and restart the sync.
Is there a way we can safely remove the license without having to remove site access or remove the user?
Removing the user from the group granting Jira license such as jira-software-user but keeping them in the group that grants confluence access such as confluence-users should do the trick.
The problem is we do not know what groups you have granted application access to and you’ll need to check this in the application access page if you are the Jira admin.
To find what group, please see: https://support.atlassian.com/user-management/docs/update-product-access-settings/
