Hi
We are currently building Jira SM and the Asset management function, do we need to create a Object Schema for Employees, that will then allow us to align an asset to that user ?
We will be doing an import once all the data is correct out of our old ITSM platform, but trying to understand how users are handled
You have two options to assign an asset to your employees. Will all employees have a license in your Atlassian instance (could be for any Atlassian app, as long as they are managed)? If so then you can use the user attribute and associate an asset that way. If only a subset of your employees will have a license then you would have to create an object schema and import all your employees to it.
Hello @Michelle Kirk
The answer is Yes, let me explain.
As @Mikael Sandberg mentioned, its best to sync your HR system into an Employee Asset object since you then can add attributed to that user such as apps and hardware.
Also, think of it from another point, if you have a case where sometime you need the user manager to approve the request - you wont need to ask who is your manager - because it will be in your employee asset object and you can automatically fetch him and send the ticket to him/her.
Key point to remember, you dont need to have all users to be added any Atlassian app such as Jira or Confluence, but you do need to have their email on Atlassian side as an Atlassian user.
For that you simply need to have your IT team to sync via Atlassian Guard all company users, but you dont need to give all users app access, the only access all users will need is JSM customer portal access.
Hope that helps.
Ariel.
