Dashboard widget names and descriptions don't display properly

Dashboard widget names and descriptions don't display properly

Instead of the widget names I get something like _MSG_gadget.recently.created.title.specific_

Instead of descriptions I get something like __MSG_gadget.activity.stream.description__

It seriously hinders the usability of the dashboards and I need it fixed, but the fixes found on the web do not seem to be working.

That is a well known symptom of the JIRA server not being able to reach itself over your network. Check routing, firewalls and name resolution are all correct, and allow Jira to talk to itself.

If they are all fine, then the next thing to check is SSL - does the server have the right certificates to talk to itself?
