Create automation using Application Tunnels

Buckeye Admin October 1, 2025

I have an internal company Jira instance that is linked to our JSM Cloud instance using the Application Tunnels.

We frequently link tickets between these two environments. For example, we link customer bug reports to the internal SW team's tickets to fix.

I'd like to create an automation that spans the tunneled Instances.

Preferred behavior:

  1. Internal ticket is transitioned
  2. Cloud JSM ticket automatically gets an internal comment

I'd like to avoid the necessity of service agents to watch these linked tickets.

Is this possible? Ideas how to do so?

Hi @Buckeye Admin ,

I haven't tested this for Application Tunnels, but I think you'll have to work with webhooks here.
There are ways you can create and link remote instances by using automation, so you might want to check this.

Now, I did native integration between two cloud instances, and I know my colleague 'connected' DC and the cloud with the same approach. Here's how we did it (note that it's in Croatian, but you can simply translate it): https://atlassian.koios.hr/sync-issuea-dviju-jira-cloud-instanci/

You would definitelly need to tweak some things a bit, but in general, it should work as long as the DC firewall allows sending and receiving data via these webhooks.

Cheers,
Tobi

Actually, here's the freshly published English version: Sync items between two Jira (cloud) instances
I'm heading for a wedding so I didn't have the time to 'check' if it all makes sense, but you nudged me to write a blog post here in Community about this once I get back from Team Europe :)
