Did you mean:

Create a new project with the same settings (Service management)

Jaroslav Jaroš
April 2, 2026

Hello,

I would like to ask you if it is possible to create a new project for the Jira Service Management with the same settings we use in another service management project?

Can it be duplicated? If yes, how? Or can I create it from existing project?

I would need to use the same:
- request types
- workflows
- fields
- automation

What I do not want to be copied:
- old issues
- customers
- history

Thank you very much for your response

Hi @Jaroslav Jaroš

Yes, if the space you want to duplicate is based on a Company Managed setup.

All schemas from the origin space will be used.

Automations can't be cloned, you would have to change the scope of the rules that need to act on the new space.

Steps:

  1. Click "Create Space" and select "Company Managed"
  2. Continue until you reach space title and details, there check the box "Share settings with an existing space"
  3. Choose the space to copy the settings from
  4. Continue and create the space

If you are on an Enterprise subscription, you could use custom space templates, see; https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/custom-project-templates/

Hello @Jaroslav Jaroš

Here are a few details that haven't been explicitly stated.

The "Share configuration" option when creating Company-managed projects

  1. is available only if you are using a paid subscription (Standard, Premium, Enterprise)
  2. sets the new project up to truly share the configurations used by another project. It does not make a copy of those configurations. So if you make changes to them it affects both projects.
  3. Applies only to Company-managed projects. You cannot specify a Team-managed project as the one from which the configuration is selected, and you won't see the option if you are creating a Team-managed project.

Hello @Jaroslav Jaroš

Depend on Space Type.

If this is a company-managed JSM project, you can create the new project with “Share settings with an existing space”. That will bring over the shared Jira configuration like work types, workflows, screens, fields, permissions, and notifications.

Jira has options to copy automation rules.

You can make too, just one Project as "Template Project" and Save as Template.2026-04-02 12_38_57-Greenshot.png

@Jaroslav Jaroš

I agreed with what @Trudy Claspill and @Marc -Devoteam- statements.  I especially enjoy the the usage of template setup if your subscription level is at the proper level.

In our envs, we do have custom automation setup where internal JSM request can be submitted and our process setup calls out the appropriate webhooks with the parameters to create the new project based on an existing project.

Let me know if you are interested to hear more on the webhooks automation rule setup.

Best, Joseph Chung Yin

Hi @Jaroslav Jaroš

Yes, this can be done if the space you want to copy is a company-managed space.

When creating the new space, you can choose to use the same settings as an existing one. This is a good way to keep the same request types, workflows, fields, and other configurations.

The only thing to note is that automation rules are not copied automatically, so those would need to be updated separately by changing their scope to include the new space.

Steps:

  • Click Create Space
  • Choose Company-managed
  • Continue until you get to the space details section
  • Tick Share settings with an existing space
  • Select the space you want to copy from
  • Finish creating the space
