How can we clone a JSM Project?
I have 2 environments, a dev and production (2 different urls). I'd like to clone our production JSM project into our Dev environment.
Besides doing it manually, is there a more efficient way to do it?
Since you are on the Premium subscription, you can establish a Sandbox env (We use it as our Dev env in our instance).
Using the Sandbox env, one can copy Production data into the it - where you can clone the entire env or specified project(s).
Here is the reference link for you to try -
https://support.atlassian.com/organization-administration/docs/copy-production-data-to-sandbox/
If you have not created a Sandbox env for your site, here is the article on how to set it up
https://support.atlassian.com/organization-administration/docs/create-a-sandbox/
Hope this helps.

Thanks Joseph.
I've created the Sandbox now. This is a great feature.
Unfortunately copying over my JSM projects all failed.

Hi Joseph
After getting in touch with Atlassian Support, we discovered that the reason the projects were failing to copy over to the sandbox is because the 'description' for 28 of my screens exceeded a certain character limit, and it was causing the error.
After updating the descriptions to something shorter, copying the projects worked without a problem.
Thanks
Kelly

Hi Kelly,
I would use an add-on app like Revyz Data Manager for Jira to get your configurations AND data cloned.

Make sure that the JSM product is "installed" in the Sandbox. I made that mistake one time after I set up a new Jira instance. I forgot to install JSM before copying a JSM project over.
If you have JSM already installed, then you would need to look at the Error log for Job that ran.

You add it as a product

To efficiently clone your Jira Service Management (JSM) project from production to a development environment, I recommend using our app Deep Clone for Jira. Deep Clone allows you to duplicate entire projects, including issues, configurations, and more, across different Jira instances with our Instance Clone feature, or within the same instance.
This also works with the Jira Premium Sandbox feature.

I agree with @John Funk, we use this app and it does a great job of cloning projects. If 3rd-party apps aren't an option for you/your org, you can try using the JSM Copy Product Data feature (Admin > Settings > Data management > Copy product data) OR the Manage sandboxes feature (same page as Copy Product Data) to see if that meets your needs. These features are nice but don't give you the control, granularity, or information about your data that Revyz Data Manager for Jira and other backup/restore/cloning apps provide. If none of this works, unfortunately, you'll probably have to re-create the project in your sandbox. 😊

Hi
Thanks for that. I've created the sandbox environment, but when I tried to copy the JSM projects, they all failed.
Any ideas?

Hmm, I'd suggest downloading a trial 3rd-party app from the Marketplace and trying to use that. Note that apps like Revyz's Data Manager for Jira (which also works on JSM) need to be installed on both instances but they're both free (trials) and the instructions are easy to follow.
