Can't login to backup JIRA as we required LDAP

Craig Thacker
September 4, 2019

I have restored a backup of my older Jira instance and have managed to get the web portal working.  I cant however, login with an account that could login before the backup.

I know that this instance was setup with LDAP authentication, so how can I configure the LDAP authentication again without the ability to login, or how can I login where I can configure changes in the web portal?

EDIT: I should mention, we are running Jira Core 7.12.3

Hi @Craig Thacker ,

Please, find more information on Retrieving the JIRA Administrator from https://confluence.atlassian.com/jira/retrieving-the-jira-administrator-192836.html documentation.

Kind regards,

hello Craig.

The best practice will require you to set a local admin in the internal directory of Jira before doing the backup/ restore to avoid this case.
In order to log in your case, you need to use the recovery admin.

I note that the documentation says not to start confluence/jira as a service but to restart it manually.  Does restarting it using the start-jira.bat be applicable for this as mine is installed as a service?  But the documentation e.g. https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/start-and-stop-confluence-838416264.html

States just to restart it as a service.  Which is it? .bat or by service for manual restart?

hello Craig, sorry I was quick with my link copy/past.
the following  link gives you both methods for Jira (if you installed as service, use the service section, if not use the .bat)

https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/setting-properties-and-options-on-startup-938847831.html

the property to set is : -Datlassian.recovery.password=<your-password>

then log in using :
user = recovery_admin
pswd : <your-password>
